Austin, Texas-based real estate investment and development firm The Amherst Group has appointed Peter Campbell as its new general counsel, effective immediately.
In his new role, Campbell will be responsible for Amherst’s internal and external legal and compliance functions, including legal matters related to capital raising, investor relations, property and investment management and acquisitions.
“Peter’s extensive real estate expertise and track record of providing sound counsel on a range of complex legal and strategic issues make him an ideal fit for our leadership team and exactly the person we want in the room when making critical decisions as a firm,” said Sean Dobson, chairman, CEO and CIO of Amherst.
In his previous role, Campbell was the Americas general counsel for Australia-based development, investment management and construction firm Lendlease. Lendlease announced in May that it is pulling away from international construction and development to focus solely on domestic work, and intends to fully divest from activities outside of Australia by November 2025.
Before Lendlease, Campbell’s previous positions include general counsel for New York City-based The Continuum Co. and general counsel for Lehman Brothers Holdings’ Commercial Real Estate Group, now defunct. His early career included positions in the real estate practice at Palo Alto, California-based Cooley LLP and New York City-based Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.
Amherst manages $18.6 billion in capital across single-family rentals, commercial real estate and mortgage-backed securities. Since its founding in 1993, the company has acquired 57,000 homes valued at $10 billion and made $1.8 billion in investments for repairs, according to its website.
